Reading the runes on noise: Mixed messages in the data
The Noise Pages recorded 117 noise incidents in 2021-22, from July 2021 to end-June this year. Most of these, 57%, occurred in Cotham ward, followed some distance behind by Clifton Down and Clifton wards. (Perhaps more people in Cotham report to this website.) The monthly pattern of incidents (dark bars in the chart) shows a transition away from the unusual spikes that happened during the two “covid summers”. Operation Beech noise patrol continues to be well used
For the second year in a row, Operation Beech, the police anti-noise patrol funded by University of Bristol, attended almost 300 incidents in the last year. The total for academic 2021-22, which ended on 30 June, was 298 attendances, up slightly from 286 in the previous year. Beech ran virtually every week in both years. Although Beech is taking a break for August, it's expected to resume in September. Patrols operate on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday nights from 8pm to 2am.

(22004) Complaint about noise disturbance at a property in Hampton Road on 30 July 2022. Resident wrote to UoB: "We were disturbed by bass music during Saturday evening 30th July, through our closed double-glazed windows from, it seems, [xx] Hampton Road, which is around 30m away from us. * Manilla, 6 Jul: 'They shut it down'
(22003) Complaint about noise disturbance at a property in Manilla Road, Clifton, on 6 July 2022. Resident wrote to UoB: "Very loud garden party as we went to bed at 22:10. I went round and told them in no uncertain terms that they knew the rules and to shut it down now. To be fair, they did, so I'm not asking for [community liaison] intervention on this occasion."
