* Lansdown, 20 Mar: Fourth complaint

(21105) Three residents have complained about a noisy party at a student property in Lansdown Road on the night of Saturday/Sunday, 19/20 March 2022. This is the fourth complaint against this property this academic year.

Resident1 wrote to UoB: "I am saddened to have to write again to complain about a very disruptive party held in Lansdown Road, by the students at [xx] Lansdown. This party started after the rugby finished and grew progressively louder with overspill into both the back garden and the street. The usual problems, shouting, screaming, singing, banging of doors, making it impossible to sleep. I called Operation Beech at around 12.30. I am pleased to say they responded more vigorously this time, closing the party down. However, there was a lot more noise in the street as the guests dispersed going on until 1.45.

"... this year has been particularly problematic as there are close links between the boys at [xx] and the girls at [xx] (See report on 12/03/2022.) They run shouting between the houses all the time, so one has the feeling of residing within a hall of residence. Their parties are joint affairs, which obviously means large attendances in houses with rooms too small to hold many people, causing the inevitable overspills into the street and the back garden. I spoke to a recently arrived neighbour this morning who was clearly in great distress, telling me of the exhaustion and stress the situation was causing her."

Resident2 supported the complaint, saying neighbours had made efforts to "establish and maintain a reasonable relationship" with the students. "When they first moved in last summer, there was a lot of high-spirited, disruptive behaviour ... and it took repeated discussions with them, and complaints to both UoB and the landlord’s agent, to try and calm them down. Thankfully, and to their credit, since November they have made an effort to be considerate neighbours. Which is why Saturday was such a surprise, because there was no warning. Noisy visitors started arriving around 10.00pm, then loud music started around 11.00."

Resident3 says the party was "noisy and disruptive".
