* Ravenswood, 25 Sep: 'Large and loud'

(21054) Two residents have complained about a student party in Ravenswood Road on the night of 24-25 September 2021.

Resident1 says: "We contacted Beech Patrol at 2am as there was a big, noisy party at [xx] Ravenswood. We were able to sleep about 20 minutes later as all went quiet.

"We have found Beech Patrol to be amazing as we are already dealing with loud disturbance and sleep deprivation on the night, so to be able to have a professional ‘body’ to go round and have the direct contact maintains our sanity. And I really don’t think residents should ever have to get out of bed in the early hours and deal with large groups of drunk students - it is exhausting and intimidating."

Resident2 said in an email to UoB: "Can you tell me why I’m still complaining again this year about the students in [xx] Ravenswood Road? Every year I email and complain and every year I’m reassured things are being done, but yet here I am complaining again ....

"On Friday night the new students held a party which although it kicked off later in the evening was more than unacceptable until around 2am in the morning. The party was both large and loud, not a small gathering or something they could control and both inside and outside. I believe the party was stopped around 2am or we might have had to suffer it for a few more hours.

"Isn’t it time we linked social behaviour to degree grade as sadly the students just can’t seem to grasp what is acceptable and what isn’t when they choose to live in our neighbourhoods?"

Note: I witnessed this event myself on two occasions either side of midnight. Although not visible from the street, there was clearly a noisy gathering of people in the rear garden. On the second occasion it was louder and accompanied by a low bass beat. Several people from the adjoining house joined the party. AW.
