* Lansdown, 7 Jul: Latest of 4 incidents

(21010) Several residents have complained about loud parties and other noise in Lansdown Road, Chandos, on the night of Tuesday into Wednesday, 6-7 July 2021.

Resident1 says the disturbances came on the back of several others on recent nights. He reported to UoB: "Number [x] and [xx] Lansdown Road have simultaneously had parties with loud music coming from both houses and loud groups in the front and back gardens—whooping, shouting, all the usual anti-social stuff. By 12.30 I’d had enough and went to remonstrate. I found other residents there who had reached the end of their tethers, and all of us asked the students to stop their inconsiderate behaviour. What made things worse was that, when asked, some of the students had the attitude they were the victims. When students have kept you awake for several nights, that's very hard to deal with."

"Even as I write at 3.30am there are still students continuously making noise on the street. They haven’t taken a blind bit of notice of residents' complaints, and the noise looks set to go on all night, interspersed with front doors banging, taxis arriving etc.

He later wrote again to confirm that noise in the street continued "till well after dawn ... Just after 5.00am a noisy bunch walked slowly down the middle of the road and turned onto Kensington [Road]."

Resident2 emailed UoB to say: "I have also had a night of broken sleep due to the noise in the back yards, and the open back doors of both [x] and [xx] Lansdown Road. [These are the same houses mentioned above.]

"At 11:30 am I shouted politely from my bedroom window asking those at number [xx] to please close their back doors, and go inside because I want to go to sleep. They did so, but not for long. By 12:30 I could no longer hear them, but then it got noisy at [x] Lansdown Road.

"Again I shouted loudly out my window for those at [x] Lansdown Road to go inside, it’s late. They said sorry, and did so, but 10 minutes later more people came out to smoke and talk loudly. After 3 temperate requests from me, at 2 pm. when they couldn’t hear me over their talking, I finally screamed out SHUT UP! They went inside. But at 4:30, and then at 5 in the morning more people were outside again, smoking and being loud."

Resident3 said: "I would like to confirm the complaints made by [Resident1] and [Resident2]. There was a lot of noise in the street round 3.00 am. There has been shouting and banging all day as the students move in, and one can put up with that. But these late-night noises really are intolerable."

Resident4 said: "We’re at Stanley Road. We can hear the noise even though we are further down by the [Kensington Arms]."

University of Bristol has responded to the complaints and the two houses have been visited by university staff.

Resident1's email also mentions other recent incidents: "For the last several nights there have been noisy student gatherings in various houses nearby. Although I’ve visited some of the houses and talked to the students, I haven’t reported them because they’ve newly arrived and I thought they'd settle in. But a couple of nights ago there was a party at [xx] Lansdown Rd that was so loud it took several minutes of banging on the door to get a response. Then the following night there was a really loud and disturbing party at [xx] Lansdown Road." [These are different addresses to those in the main report above. AW]
