* Cotham Vale, 6 Nov: 'Beech police ignored'

(22050) Three residents complained about a noisy student party in Cotham Vale on the night of 5-6 November 2022.

Resident1 wrote to UoB: "Having been round to the above address twice this evening (11pm & 11.30 pm) to complain, in the nicest possible way, about the noise from an excessive party, it has now escalated and has returned to the garden despite promises to quieten down. Even with the doors shut the music is throbbing in our house two doors away. Those who are hosting the party clearly have no control over their guests and I am fed up at losing sleep."

In a later email she added: "... I went round again and had to knock 11 times before anyone answered. Then there was a big kerfuffle about who would come to the door, and then I got the 'it's one night in the year and you live on a student street' which is of course extremely annoying."

At 2-50am, she emailed again: "All went quiet when OB [Operation Beech] arrived at 12.55am. Music and shouting resumed [at] 2.20 -- not as loud but still plenty loud enough to be heard inside my house.

Lights flashing and party continuing."

Resident2 wrote to UoB: "I contacted Operation Beech ... at 10.50 last night. Shortly afterwards it [the party] moved inside. Re-contacted Beech at 11.30 when music from inside was extremely loud. Not sure if Beech revisited. Even with acoustic double glazing it was a considerable disturbance and I had to resort to earplugs.

"This situation is intolerable and does not seem to be reducing. The response to incidents may be improving but we should not be having our sleep and wellbeing so regularly disrupted. The offenders clearly took no notice of the visit from Beech."

Resident3 said: "I was also kept up most of last night because of these students, so today I'm ill and cannot function. ... The students at [xx] Cotham Vale blasted music and shouted as loudly and for as long as they wished with no interest in how it affected those around them. Either they haven't understood what community living is, or are just selfish. I contacted Operation Beech at 00:40am who stopped them at 1am (thank you), although it resumed at 2:20am."
