* Collingwood, 1 Oct: 'Drunk, noisy students'

(22027) Collingwood Road, Chandos, was "packed with drunk, noisy students" on the night of Saturday, 1 October 2022, after two parties in the street, a resident reports.

By mid-evening, there was a large party in a house on the east side of the street and another gathering in a house opposite, she says. Yet after a first visit from Beech, even more people arrived.

(This report covers incidents 22026 and 22027.)

In a complaint to UoB, Resident1 says she contacted Operation Beech at 8pm and they came and spoke to the students. "According to Operation Beech, they apologised and promised to reduce the noise [but] it is unclear to me why at that stage both parties were not halted... there were at least 30-40 students at [xx] and around 100 at [xx].

"The noise never reduced and actually only got worse as more and more students joined the parties."

She went to both properties, including both the basement flat and the upper flat at the house with the largest number of people present, but couldn't find any tenants at either flat—"only partying students drinking loads."

"I called Operation Beech again at 10pm—together with 4 other neighbours, as by this time everyone in our street has had enough of the noise. They attended the parties and stopped them then—as a consequence there were around 200 students on the street talking loudly and waiting for taxis."

Resident2 also contacted Beech "in part due to the distress of some voiced on the street’s WhatsApp group. We could clearly hear it even though it was at the far end of the road."

(Incident 22026, smaller party on west side of street, same date and time):

See above for basic details supplied by Resident 1.

Resident3 says students at the house with the smaller gathering had told her beforehand they would have people round and then go out at 11pm. She says they stuck to this plan, though "it did get very noisy when they were congregating in the street. I went to talk to them to ask them to keep their voices down."
