* Ashgrove, 5 Jul: 'Noise from two houses'

(21008) Two residents have complained about noise disturbances from a pair of student houses in Ashgrove Road, Redland, on the night of Sunday into Monday, 4-5 July 2021.

Resident1 said in an email to UoB on Sunday night that new tenants had moved into House A earlier that day "and already there is a party with noise past 23h and large gathering. I went to the property at 23:20h and suggested to one of the tenants to stop the party since it’s noisy past 23hrs and also as it’s against Covid-19 regulations. At least they listened and a lot more than 6 people left from the inside of the property (2 waves of groups of 5+ people suggesting it’s more than only one household who visited)."

At 2-15am he wrote again: "Unfortunately my earlier intervention has not been successful. There is still noise from the property. It’s people talking with windows wide open (sat on the sill, see pic), doors opening and shutting and also people making short appearances in the garden. It’s clear that there is no respect despite earlier reassurances."

Resident2 said: "My first visit to [the] students was around 10pm in the garden of [House B]. I asked them to turn down the music, be mindful of the residential neighbourhood and welcomed them in here. They did switch off the music and become quiet.

"About hour later (after 11pm), students from [House A] began to receive a large group of guests, moved into the garden and played loud music. I came outside and found that another neighbour [Resident1] was already there, asking the students to become quiet. They did switch off the music, asked all the guests to go back home. The guests, other UoB students, were less friendly as well as very noisy when they came outside and moved towards their own accommodation.

"It seems like the noise was down until 2:00am when students [at House B] started randomly go into the garden, talk loudly and shout to each other before disappearing into the building. At 2:20am I had to go and ask them to be quiet, which they almost did (there were still occasions were they came outside and talked loudly)."
