Town vs Gown: Observer article
Bristol's booming student population has boosted the economy and gives the city an energy and vitality it might otherwise lack. But it has also had some strongly negative effects which go far beyond the problems of late-night noise that this website is chiefly concerned about. These issues are being played out in virtually every university town and city across the country. The Observer newspaper took a comprehensive look at what's happening in its article, "Town v gown—is the student boom wrecking communities?", published on Sunday, 23 September. Bristol is not specifically mentioned, but you will probably find that much of the content sounds very familiar—and in some cases points to potentially even worse consequences if the issues are not addressed.
