■ Hampton Party: Agent Replies

March 22, 2018

Brownlie Student Accommodation, which manages [x] Hampton Road, has responded to my letter to them about the party on 3 March. Fiona Jacobs, Property Manager, confirms they were unaware of the party until my letter reached them after a detour via a previous agent. Her reply says: "Please accept our apologies that such a disturbance has occurred." She also says "this kind of behaviour is certainly not tolerated in our properties and we have already contacted the tenants ... very clearly pointing out, verbally & in writing, that they are in breach of their tenancy agreement." She adds that the tenants have been advised they are at risk of termination if "further instances" occur. (Presumably the students will leave in the summer anyway.) I will be writing back to say I accept that the agent has taken appropriate steps in response to my complaint, and that we should now focus on preventing a repeat. I will ask them to ensure new student tenants are aware that noise is a hot-button issue in this area, and that they need to observe any relevant clauses in their agreement. Ideally this should be explained both when they sign up and again when they move in after the summer break.
