► Waverley, Jun 21: 'Called police at 1:30am'

(19088) A Waverley Road resident says she had to move out of her bedroom because of late-night noise from a student house across the street.

She says the noise came from a basement living room at the house, which is part of a row between Hampton Road and St Ronan's Avenue.

In an email to me, the resident said: "On Sunday, 21st June, there was a gathering of several people in this living room. It began around 10pm. .... They were drinking and talking, and this talking became shouting as the night wore on.

"I was trying to sleep, but even with windows closed and moving to the back of my flat, it was still too loud to allow me to sleep. I had to work the next day ...

"I felt too nervous to call round to the house to complain in person, as I have done this before at this address and received a hostile response, so I called 101 at 1:30 am.

"The police informed me that I now needed to inform Environmental Health [Bristol City Council], but [the council] said that they could not deal with one-off incidents, only repeated incidents from the same property over at least a 14-day period. So I had no-one to help, or with whom to register a complaint."

The resident has since complained to UoB, which has taken up the case.
